When I first got married, one of the first things that had to change was my priorities. Life was no longer just about me; it was about my wife and our family. The same thing happens when we surrender our hearts to Jesus. Our priorities shift. It’s no longer about our comfort or our preferences. It’s about choosing Him above everything else.
God isn’t interested in being one of our preferences. He wants to be our priority.
In Exodus 20, God gives the Ten Commandments, and the very first one is, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Idol worship isn’t just about bowing down to a statue or a false god. It’s about putting anything before God.
Idols don’t look like golden calves today. They look like control, convenience, and comfort. And comfort might just be one of the greatest idols of our generation. Too often, we won’t sacrifice our comfort to pursue what God has called us to.
As we step into these 21 days of prayer, this is our opportunity to prove that God truly has first place in our lives. Let’s pour into our relationship with Him, build our prayer life, dig into His Word, and realign our hearts.
Two of the greatest indicators of your priorities are your calendar and your budget. If you looked at where your time and money are going, would it show that God holds the top spot in your life?
But here’s the good news. When we choose to seek God first, He always meets us there. James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” If we seek Him, He always welcomes us with open arms. He’s faithful to meet us right we are. The best news of all, is that he never turns us away.
I believe with all my heart, when we put God first, everything else falls into its proper place. So, seek Him FIRST!
