21 Days of Devos - Day 5

DAY 5 | Ask Seek Knock | Pastor Alex Reyes

Have you ever tried to look directly at the sun? Before you consider it, don’t. Every day we feel its warmth and see its light, yet staring at it head on is nearly impossible. It’s true form is always present, always sustaining life, but rarely something we can behold without pain.

Recently, I was driving on a misty morning when something unexpected happened. As I glanced toward the sky, the thick fog softened the sun’s intensity just enough for me to see its perfect shape; clear, defined, and gentle. For a brief moment, the mist revealed what the brightness normally concealed. But as the fog lifted, the sun’s form disappeared again into brilliance too strong to gaze upon.

That moment stayed with me because it reminded me of Jesus. He is our Light (John 8:12). He is our warmth and peace (John 16:33). But unlike the sun, when we look toward Him, when we seek His true nature, there is no danger, no pain, no mystery that harms us. The more clearly we see Jesus, the more His goodness is revealed. The “mist” of life’s trials doesn’t hide Him; in fact, those very moments often help us see Him more distinctly.

In the fog of hardship, His nature becomes unmistakable:

There is joy…

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!” Philippians 4:4 (NLT)

There is healing…

“He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 (NLT)

There is restoration…

“In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” 1 Peter 5:10 (NLT)

And in Him, there is so much more.

There will be days when you feel alone, abandoned, or unsure of your way. But just as the sun never disappears, even when hidden by clouds, Jesus’ presence never fades. His character remains constant, steady, and good. So when life feels misty, look toward Him. He is always with you.
