21 Days of Devos - Day 10

DAY 10 | Seek His Word | Pastor John Brockman

Most of us have had that moment where we’re walking through the house at night and think, “I know this place well enough. I don’t need to turn on the light.” Two steps later, we find the coffee table with our shin or our big toe! Ouch!  Suddenly, the light doesn’t feel optional anymore.

That is a picture of how many of us approach life. We assume we know the way. We rely on experience, instincts, or good intentions, and we move forward without asking God for direction. Then we wonder why things hurt more than expected.

Psalm 119:105 reminds us that God never intended for us to walk in the dark. His Word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path. Notice that it does not say His Word is a massive LED floodlight for the entire future. It is a lamp. It gives enough light for the next step. And that is usually all we need.

We often want God to reveal the whole plan before we obey. But God invites us to open His Word daily and let it guide us step by step. When we seek Scripture, we are not just reading words on a page but we are receiving wisdom, correction, comfort, and direction for real life decisions.

Jesus modeled this kind of dependence on God’s Word. When He faced temptation, pressure, and uncertainty, He responded with Scripture. He knew that truth anchors us when emotions and circumstances try to lead us instead. (Matthew 4:1–11)

The more we seek God’s Word, the less often we stumble through life relying on guesswork. His Word trains us to recognize His voice and trust His guidance. You may not know everything that lies ahead, but you do not have to walk blindly. We may not know what tomorrow holds, but we do know who holds tomorrow! God is in control.

Before you take another step today, turn on the light. Open His Word. Let God guide your path!

Prayer: Lord, help me slow down and seek You in Your Word. Give me wisdom for today and courage to follow the light You provide. Amen.
