21 Days of Devos - Day 17

DAY 17 | The Now Generation | Rachel McConkey

I remember when my son was little and I would play “The Blessing” on YouTube. He would stand in front of the TV, barely tall enough to see above the stand, swaying back and forth with one tiny hand lifted. In that moment I knew his love for worship music was the beginning of his love for God.

There is a lie the enemy wants us to believe that children should be seen and not heard, that young people cannot think for themselves or make an impact until they are older or more experienced. Yet Scripture tells a very different story. God does not treat young people as a warm-up act for the future. Psalm 8:2 says, “Through the praise of children and infants You have established a stronghold.” The worship of a child is not simply cute or heartwarming. It is purposeful and powerful. It establishes strength. It silences the enemy. Even at one and a half years old, my son carried spiritual authority. His praise had weight. His innocence carried victory.

The Now Generation is not tomorrow’s church. They are part of what God is doing right now. There is no smaller or partial version of the Holy Spirit for those under eighteen. What if our prayers became bold enough to empower them, support them, teach them, and guide them with intention and expectation? Children are not waiting for a platform. They stand on one every day in classrooms, on sports fields, in friend groups, and on playgrounds. God is already raising up their voices to declare His greatness where they are.

Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation commends Your works to another; they tell of Your mighty acts.” This means parents, leaders, and adults have a calling to do more than hope for the next generation. We must intentionally lead them toward Jesus today. Kids and students are not simply the future of the church. They are the heartbeat of what God is doing in this moment.

Will you add your voice to theirs as we declare the mighty acts of God from one generation to the next? Will you intercede for them and pray they continue to lift their voices and their hands?

The time is now. The generation is now.
